Annie Lennox To Quit Touring

Former Eurythmics singer and general grand-dame of electronic pop, Annie Lennox, has revealed that she has given up touring.

A post on her website reads, “I doubt that I’ll ever tour again because quite honestly… it just wears me out mentally and physically, and my back and left foot are rubbish.”

Lennox hasn’t toured since an American jaunt in 2007, restricting her live performances to TV appearances and, what most people will know her for these days, performances at charity events.

She went on to detail the draining nature of life on the road, “I think I spent enough time waiting in cars, hotel rooms and dressing rooms for Godot to actually make a personal appearance… In the future performers will tour by hologram on a regular basis…undoubtedly.”

Lennox suffered a back injury in 2008 that has made sustained live performances a bit of an ordeal. The 56-year-old’s last studio album proper was 2007’s Songs Of Mass Destruction, although she did release a special Christmas album, A Christmas Cornucopia, in December 2010 to generally good reviews. She was awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours.

As for Eurythmics, although Lennox and Dave Stewart remain friends there are no plans for the two to reunite any time soon.
