Aphex Twin Teases ‘Cheetah EP’ Release With Cryptic Flyers

There’s EP announcements, then there’s EP announcements that get the whole internet into a mild frenzy. The announcement surrounding a suspected forthcoming Aphex Twin release for sure falls in the latter, with a flyer as mysterious as it is retro finding its way into various record stores.

Laid out like the one page manual for a your high-tech, snazzy new synth, the flyer features “New Product Information” for Aphex Twin’s Cheater EP. The text on the flyer uses 1980’s tech slang to describe the very futuristic music of Aphex Twin, explaining how the EP “uses digital sound generation techniques combined with wave sequencing technology”.

Recently, various tracks with names such as Cheetah3 Teac or CHEETAHT7 appeared on Aphex’s somewhat secret SoundCloud account. They have since been removed, leaving us wondering if that’s what the line “We sincerely hope that having battled through the programming of the Cheetah EP, you have not become familiar with the exceptional potential of this record” is all about.

Wrapping up the “New Product Information” is a challenge issued to fans, albeit in a very wordy manner. Fans are encouraged to flip tracks from the EP and send them through to Warp Records who will record you if the jam is up to scratch.

Now while we wait for an official release date, feel free to browse the world-class features of the Cheeter EP Synth:

-15 Note polyphonic
