Behemoth digital corporations slash giant babies Apple and Tidal are currently in the midst of a feud, which all started when a Tidal live-stream of the Lil WeezyAna Festival, a charity concert to benefit children affected by Hurricane Katrina, cut to the above image (minus angry Drake, that was our doing) when Canadian rapper Drake took the stage.
The tidy bit of shade-throwing from the Jay-Z owned Tidal music site popped up during the stream of the charity concert which benefits children affected by Hurricane Katrina and is helmed by Lil Weezy, who himself has drunk from the Tidal kool aid and is part of Jay’s squad, and remained for the duration of Drakes set.
Early rumours sided with Tidal, saying that Apple, who apparently has a $19 million dollar exclusivity deal with Drizzy, laid down the lawsuit hammer if rival Tidal streamed his two-song set from the New Orleans gig, forcing them to throw up the below image instead.
Reports from Buzzfeed however seem to shift the blame to Drake himself, with a statement from Apple distancing themselves from the decision, with sources saing they don’t even have the power to stop such a thing.
Drake’s manager has now also stepping into the ring saying, “The decision to not have Drake participate in the Tidal steam has nothing to do with Apple or Drake’s deal. Point blank, 100 percent. I made a business decision. Apple doesn’t have the power to stop us from being part of a live stream. The only people that have the power to do that are Cash Money and Universal, and they’re our partners.”
Welp, there you go, Drake loves Apple and Tidal hates Apple and likes Drake but now hate Drake? The one take away from all of this is that I’m still never signing up to use Tidal.
