Apple have announced their inaugural Apple Music Awards, a “celebration of the best and boldest musicians of 2019,” sharing the winners of the five primary categories.
The ceremony will be live streamed from Steve Jobs Theater tomorrow (Wednesday, 5th December) at 1:30PM AEDT and will include a performance by Billie Eilish – the recipient of 3/5 of the primary awards.
Eilish will take home Global Artist of the Year as well as Album of the Year, which is based on the most-streamed Apple Music album. Eilish’s debut full-length When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? clocked up over a billion streams on the platform this year. She’ll also share the Songwriter of the Year award with her brother, co-writer and producer FINNEAS.
Outside of Eilish’s domination, the folks at Apple have awarded Breakthrough Artist of the Year to Lizzo, and celebrated Lil Nas X‘s viral sensation ‘Old Town Road’ with Song of the Year.
The Awards are intended to recognise the “passion, energy and creativity of the world’s favourite artists,” according to Vice President of Apple Music and International Content, Oliver Schusser.
“The musically diverse group of inaugural winners have sparked deep social conversation, influenced culture and inspired our customers around the world. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate them.”
You’ll be able to stream the ceremony here tomorrow.
