Architects Announce New Album, ‘The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit’

British group Architects have announced the release of their tenth studio album, the classic symptoms of a broken spirit. The album, set for release on Friday, 21st October, follows the band’s popular 2021 recordFor Those Who Wish To Exist, which scored a #1 ARIA placement and widespread critical acclaim.

The sessions for the classic symptoms of a broken spirit were characterised by a “more live, more exciting and more fun” energy, the band said. This vibe is apparent in the prior single, ‘when we were young’, as well as the new single ‘tear gas’.

According to a press release, the process behind the new Architects record kicked off soon after the release of For Those Who Wish To Exist. Architects jumped at the opportunity to get in a room and make music again, with the onset of COVID-19 meaning the band had to record most of For Those Who Wish To Exist remotely.

Architects front person Sam Carter outlined the band’s aims for the forthcoming record: “We wanted it to be a lot more industrial and electronic.” There’s an element of spontaneity to both ‘tear gas’ and ‘when we were young’, which suggests Architects are operating at peak fitness.

The tail end of 2021 saw Architects pull off some career milestones, including their second global livestream show from Abbey Road Studios, which followed their streamed show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2020. Fans were also able to hear Carter’s vocals on the theme of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, which was released in early 2021.
