Arctic Monkeys – who have announced an Australian tour for January next year – may become the subject of a hectic record label bidding war before too long.
As Spinner reports, the Monkeys’ deal with current label Domino ends with the album Suck It And See, their fourth consecutive UK number one LP. Therefore their sudden availability looks to have other labels scrambling for their signature (though it surely seems a stretch to imagine the four-piece would leave the London label, given that Domino nurtured them from fragile indie greenhorns from Sheffield into the international superstars they now are).
A ‘source close to the band’ told The Sun, “The boys’ four-album deal is nearly finished and their management are ready to meet labels who fancy picking them up. Signing the Arctics would be a huge coup for anyone right now, because they are guaranteed to sell huge numbers.
“They have a great relationship with Domino because the founder Laurence Bell has always given them a lot of creative control. And they could re-sign with the firm but now Domino face competition from the major labels, who are keen to wade in. It could be a huge bun fight.”
Stay with Domino, Alex.
