2013 is set to be another stellar year for the Glastonbury Festival. News is spreading today that UK lords Arctic Monkeys have been cast as headliners, and with The Rolling Stones and Mumford And Sons also heavily rumoured to be sitting in pole position, Arctic Monkeys may have found themselves in good company.
According to The Sun, this will be the second time that Arctic Monkeys have headlined the iconic event. Back in 2007, the band had their first shot at the privilege, but are stoked to have another crack as they discussed in an interview less than a month ago, explaining what boxes remain unticked within their career:
“There’s a lot left, yeah. I’d really like another shot at headlining Glastonbury. I don’t think we got that quite right when we did it in 2007.”
It seems organisers got the missive, and responded with a big ol’ thumbs-up. Whilst nothing has been set in stone at this point in time, sources have stated that the Monkeys will be kicking off the weekend event with the main slot on Friday night:
“There’s still a way to go until the festival so anything could happen but the Arctic Monkeys have been given the Friday slot. Festival bosses know that they’re a good group to get the crowd going.”
This would leave plenty of time for The Rolling Stones to shine a light on Saturday night as the main attraction.
Regardless of the lineup, Glasto 2013 is already sold out, reaching capacity in a record breaking 100 minutes this year, so punters seem to have no concerns about organisers’ booking power.
