US-based Pakistani musician Arooj Aftab is coming to Australia for the first time in March 2024. The artist’s Vulture Prince Australian tour is named after her latest album, which was released in 2021 to mass critical acclaim. The tour includes an appearance at WOMADelaide 2024 and headline shows at Melbourne Recital Centre and Sydney’s City Recital Hall.
Vulture Prince came out through New York indie label New Amsterdam, home to artists like Tyondai Braxton, Spektral Quartet (with Alex Temple and Julia Holter) and Aditya Prakash. The song ‘Mohabbat’, featuring lyrics written by early 20th century poet Hafeez Hoshiarpuri, won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance in 2022.

Pitchfork gave Vulture Prince a score of 8.2 and named it Best New Music. “At the [centre] of it all is Aftab’s powerful voice, suffused in a sorrow so deep that it seeps into your bones,” said reviewer Bhanuj Kappal.
