Australian comedian Ash Williams, who stars on the current season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia has been charged by police after it was alleged he took intimate screenshots of a woman without her consent or knowledge while the pair were engaged in phone sex over FaceTime.
As the Sunday Telegraph reports, the woman reported the incident to police in November of last year, and NSW Police have confirmed that a 38-year-old man was charged last month, following investigation, with intentionally recording intimate images without consent.
Williams is set to appear in Newtown Local Court on Monday, 1st February. If found guilty, he faces up to three years in prison.
“I’m really upset by the allegation and I’m distressed about the impact it’s had on members of my family, particularly my mum,” Williams told the newspaper in a statement.
“The allegation has left me feeling shocked and confused. I don’t propose to make any further comment and look forward to resolving the matter in court.”
This year’s edition of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia premiered earlier this month. The series was pre-recorded in Murwillumbah, NSW last year instead of its usual location of South Africa due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent travel restrictions.
Network 10 are yet to publicly address Williams’ charge or how it will affect his appearance on the show.
