Aussie Metal Bands To Shred It Out For Spot On Wacken 2022 In National Battle

In 2021, an artist’s social media following tends to matter more than whether or not they can actually play live.

But thanks to local heavy promoter Destroy All Lines, one Aussie band will win the chance to play their dream gig (well, two dream gigs actually) based on their live chops alone.

The Wacken Metal Battle is returning down under next year, reviving the time-honoured ‘battle of the bands’ format to give riff-slingers right across the country the opportunity to shred it out for a spot on the Wacken 2022 lineup.

And not only will the winning act get to play in front of up to 75,000 headbangers at Germany’s iconic metal fest next year for a chance to be crowned international Metal Battle champ, they’ll also win a guaranteed slot on Australia’s own Good Things festival lineup as well (which fyi has just announced its dates for 2022).

Sadly, if you want to apply to be involved, you’re a bit too late this time around. But artists and punters alike can head to cheer on the competitors in the Aussie and New Zealand heats in Wellington, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne this coming January and February, ahead of the national final in Melbourne on April 16.

Wacken Open Air will then run from Thursday, 4th August – Saturday, 6th August 2022.

FYI the Metal Battle has been taken place all around the world since 2004, bringing together the worldwide metal scenes at Wacken Open Air.

The contest has supported numerous bands at their starting point of their careers, including Drone, Torture Squad, Battle Beast and Hammercult.
