The Aussie contingent of South By Southwest 2015 has expanded to an impressive total of over 30 confirmed artists, thanks to some recent additions including Canberra three-piece SAFIA (pictured), New South Wales singer-songwriter Steve Smyth, Melburnian singer-songwriter Hamish Anderson and producer duo Carmada.
Other Australian acts which have been added to SXSW over the festival’s two latest lineup announcements are West Australian alt-rock trio The Love Junkies, Sydney indie-folk duo Oxford & Co. and, strangely, Gold Coast pop singer and actor Cody Simpson, who departed major label Warner Bros. Records in 2014.
Now just over a month out from SXSW, which begins in Austin, Texas in mid-March, Australia has seen over 60 musical acts receive invitations to attend.
“This is a far cry from when I started as the SXSW representative from Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii in 2002 with only 20 delegates and five bands,” says SXSW’s Phil Tripp in a press release. “SXSW has had a major impact on homegrown artists over the past decade with hundreds of showcases and dozens of major deals done.”
Other Aussie acts already confirmed for SXSW 2015 include Kirin J Callinan, The Kite String Tangle, Meg Mac, Tkay Maidza, Courtney Barnett and Angus & Julia Stone. View the full updated list of Aussies, below.
