The AMP (Australian Music Prize) has announced its not-so shortlist of local solo artists and bands contending for the $30,000 prize awarded to the most outstanding Australian album of the year. As explained by The Music Network, The AMP has made the award more accessible to all Australian musical acts by altering this year’s format.
Firstly, The AMP waved the entry fee, meaning that even if you’re a penniless busker who spent all your change on recording an album, you can still submit your work and perhaps move from the street to the studio with $30K burning a hole in your back pocket. The second alteration is the automatic consideration of all Australian albums provided their official release date is sometime in 2012.
As announced on The AMP’s Facebook page, award officials have listed over 230 Australian LPs as eligible for this year’s prize, with the judging panel having so far listened to 130 records and narrowed it down to the 26 records listed below. Once entries have closed, nine finalists will be announced early in 2013.
If you are an Australian artist whose record has not been listed but is eligible, you can submit your music to The Coopers Amp/DMDS 60 Upper Deck Jones Bay Wharf, Pirrama Rd, Pyrmont NSW 2009. The AMP asks that musicians send one copy of their album on CD (although CDR is acceptable).
