The Avalanches, Dan Sultan & More Among WOMADelaide’s First 2018 Lineup Reveal

The likes of Aussie plunderphonics kings The Avalanches, saxophonist Kamasi Washington, singer-songwriter Dan Sultan and guitar legends Rodrigo y Gabriela have been named in WOMADelaide festival’s 2018 lineup.

The Adelaide event has today revealed the first 18 names on its 2018 roster, who’ll all perform in Botanic Park in March.

The festival is also set to feature performances from the ‘Queen of the sitar’, Anoushka Shankar; the Australian premiere of ‘Havana Meets Kingston’ featuring reggae duo Sly & Robbie; and UK dub producer Adrian Sherwood.

English site artists Architects Of Air will also be returning with a new kaleidoscopic luminarium — a giant, interactive inflatable sculpture called ‘Arboria’. View the first lineup announcement in full, below.

“These artists — and the many more yet to be announced — represent some of the world’s most dynamic musical traditions, all excitingly reinvented and celebrated,” says WOMADelaide Director Ian Scobie AM.

The full WOMADelaide 2018 lineup, which will feature “around 45 more international and Australian groups, DJs and site artists”, will be released in November and December.
