Dutch producer Armin van Buuren has paid tribute to late Swedish producer and DJ Avicii, who died on Friday at the age of 28.
Honouring Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) at Sydney’s A State Of Trance music festival on Saturday night, van Buuren’s stage showed a montage of photos of Bergling, soundtracked by the Coldplay song ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’, which Bergling co-wrote and co-produced. Bergling’s birth and death dates were also shown on screens.
“Avicii, thank you for your wonderful music,” van Buuren told the crowd. “We will always remember you. I hope you’re watching us from a sky full of stars.”

In a statement, A State Of Trance organisers said news of Bergling’s passing had hit them “hard”.
“We would like to express our sympathy and offer our condolences to his family,” they said. “The world of electronic dance music won’t be the same without him.”
Bergling died in Muscat, Oman, where he was holidaying. A number of other musicians have already paid tribute to the late producer, while police have confirmed there is “no criminal suspicion” surrounding his death.
Aside from Armin van Burren’s Avicii tribute, Sydney’s A State Of Trance festival also saw 65 people charged with drug-related offences.
