CONTENT WARNING: The following article discusses suicide
Avicii‘s cause of death has reportedly been revealed, after his family released a statement last week which suggested his death was a suicide.
TMZ is now reporting that sources close to the Swedish DJ (real name Tim Bergling) claim his death was a suicide, allegedly caused by glass from a broken wine bottle. The results of an official autopsy are yet to be released.
Bergling’s family said the producer — who died earlier this month at the age of 28 — “could not go on any longer”.
“He wanted to find peace,” they said in their second statement following his death.
Bergling experienced many health issues throughout his career, and underwent surgery in 2014 to remove his gall bladder and appendix due to acute pancreatitis, which can be caused by heavy drinking.
Following his death, authorities said Bergling’s death was not being treated as suspicious.
Bergling toured Australia for the final time as Avicii in 2013, as part of Future Music Festival. He was also taken to hospital in Brisbane during the tour.
