Avril Lavigne Takes On Adele’s ‘Hello’ For Spotify Singles Session

Avril Lavigne has given one of this century’s biggest singles a makeover, taking on Adele’s ‘Hello’ for the ongoing Spotify Singles series.

Originally released back in 2015, Lavigne takes the chart-topping piece of soul-pop and makes it her own, giving it the standard brand of alternative pop-punk that she made her signature 20 years ago.

“I love Adele’s song ‘Hello’ and have been dying to do a cover of it,” Lavigne said in a statement. “The ‘Spotify Singles’ sessions were a fun opportunity to finally do this cover as well as reimagine my own song ‘Love Sux’ as an acoustic version.”

As she alludes to, the cover also came paired with an acoustic version of her own original, ‘Love Sux’, the title track from her seventh studio album, which arrived back in February.

Serving as something of a return to the pop-punk roots that Lavigne earned headlines for, Love Sux sees the Canadian singer teaming up with the likes of Machine Gun Kelly, Blackbear, and Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, while Hoppus’ bandmate Travis Barker drums for the majority of the record.

Lavigne also used this month to mark the anniversary of her debut album, Let Go, with the chart-topping record receiving the deluxe treatment for its 20th birthday.

The expanded edition included a number of B-sides and harder-to-find tracks, along with Lavigne’s original version of ‘Breakaway’, which had been made famous by Kelly Clarkson after the singer passed on recording the track for her own album.
