Bad Brains Launch GoFundMe Campaign To Help Dr Know’s Recovery

Following Bad Brains guitarist Gary Miller aka Dr. Know suffering a cardiac arrest last November, band manager Vaughan Lewis has started a GoFundMe campaign to help raise funds for his ongoing treatment.

Being put on life support for two weeks after the attack led to multiple organ failure, Dr. Know spent almost three months in hospital and continue to recover in a medical rehabilitation facility. With physical therapy and medical expenses mounting, and Miller without medical insurance at the time of his hospitalisation, Lewis started the campaign aiming to raise $100,000.

So far the fund has raised more than $20,000 in its first day.

“It’s been such an overwhelming first day of this campaign,” Bad Brains wrote on Facebook. “Doc and his family appreciate everything beyond words. Thank you!”

As the GoFundMe statement reads, doctors at first only gave Miller a 5-percent chance of recovery, but that “he continues to make incredible progress every day,” now that he is in rehab.

“Doc and his loved ones are now confident that he will make a full recovery and continue to touch our lives with his incredible music, kindness and positivity,” Lewis wrote.
