When the ever illusive Adele was announced as the host for Saturday Night Live this weekend, the world went into a frenzy thinking we might finally – finally – get new music from the superstar.
But, in her opening monologue on the programme, Adele revealed that her new album still isn’t finished.
When she addressed questions as to why she wasn’t hosting and performing as the musical guest – the latter was handled by H.E.R. – Adele gave a few reasons.
“My album’s not finished,” she said, “and I’m also too scared to do both.”
“I’d rather put on some wigs…have a glass of wine or six and just see what happens!”
There’s been a few red herrings with Adele’s follow-up to 2015’s 25 in the years since its release. Most recently, she was filmed at a friend’s wedding saying that it was due out this September. However, in June, her manager had to confirm that this was not the case.
But, it’s not all terrible news, as Adele did actually sing a few of her classic hits in various sketches throughout the night. Watch a clip of her singing ‘Hello’ in a sketch parodying The Bachelor.
