Bad Religion have announced plans to release a new record come January 25th. And with the world so full of anti-intellectualism, deceit and greed, it couldn’t come any sooner.
True North sees the band approach their iconic punk rock sound with a more retrospective approach. When composing the tracks, the band dug deep to bring forth that famous and timeless Southern Californian fury that they themselves helped pioneer. Speaking of the album, guitarist Brett Gurewitz explains “We went back to our original mission statement of short concise bursts of melody and thought…The intent was to record stripped-down punk songs without sacrificing any conceptual density.”
Joining the band not only in the studio, but also in post-production, Joe Barresi helped Bad Religion to develop what has been labelled as their most emotionally accessible album to date. But don’t stress, True North still brings forth the same fuck on the floor and break shit punk rock that we want, nay, need.
The first sample of what to expect comes in the form of the awesomely titled Fuck You. Says vocalist Greg Graffin of the single “the album’s first single is a propulsive anthem succinctly called Fuck You…If any band should have a song with that title it should be us. It just sounds like a perfect Bad Religion song.” Couldn’t agree more, sir.
So keep those eyes pealed for the album first thing next year, and prepare yourself once again for music that can not only beat you up, but steal your wallet and sleep with your sister.
