Watch Ben Gibbard Cover Radiohead’s ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ From His Home Studio

So help me god, I will post wholesome Ben Gibbard content for as long as this takes.

The Death Cab for Cutie frontman began a series of daily live streamed concerts from his home studio earlier this week, taking requests and playing tracks from across his extensive back catalogue, including The Postal Service. My personal highlight so far has been seeing Ben play ‘Title Track’ off 2000 sophomore album We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes. That’s a sad banger and a half right there.

Towards the latter half of his first stream, old mate Gibbo also performed a hauntingly beautiful cover of Radiohead‘s The Bends favourite ‘Fake Plastic Trees’. It’s a fairly standard acoustic guitar affair, but it’s still pretty special.

Gibbard is asking those who watch the live stream to donate to Aurora Commons, an organisation in Seattle, Washington that provides “a welcoming space for our unhoused neighbors to rest, prepare a meal, connect to resources and collectively create a healthy and vibrant community.”

Stream Gibbard’s cover of ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ below. You can catch sets for the foreseeable future from 10AM Australian time.
