The release of Disney’s latest Classic remake – The Lion King – is edging closer and closer and, with the official premiere going down in Los Angeles right now, the involvement of Beyoncé in the roll out of the event has gotten larger.
Disney have announced the release of a new album to accompany the release of the film, The Lion King: The Gift, which will be produced and curated by Beyoncé.
“This is a new experience of storytelling,” Beyoncé said in a statement. “I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip-hop and Afro Beat.”
The first taste we’re getting from it is from Beyoncé herself, with new single ‘Spirit’ being released today.
She has noted that involving African producers was of high importance in bringing the authentic sounds of record to life.
“Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”
