Beyond the Valley organisers, Untitled Group, have announced the dates and location for a special, one-off city edition of the popular New Year’s Eve festival that will take place in Melbourne instead of its usual home, Gippsland Parklands in Lardner, Victoria.
Beyond the City will take place across two days (Thursday, 30th and Friday, 31st December) at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and surrounding Kings Domain parklands.
Organisers announced back in August that BTV would not be going ahead with its regular camping format this year, citing uncertainty around COVID-19 restrictions and the prospect of a sudden cancellation. They announced that in its stead a two-day inner-city event would be going ahead.
In a statement today, organisers say that with yesterday’s announcement from the state government that outdoor density limits for events will be scrapped once 90% of eligible Victorians have been fully vaccinated, they now feel confident revealing their plans. The event will be fully standing, with dancing permitted and no pods.
“We look forward to returning to our usual camping format for Beyond the Valley 2022, but in the meantime, we’re so excited to be able to bring BTV to the City for this unique festival experience,” organisers commented in a statement. “We can’t wait to bring in 2022 with our favourite people.”
The lineup for Beyond the City is set to be revealed soon. When Beyond the Valley last went ahead, in 2019, the bill included the likes of RÜFÜS DU SOL, Cub Sport, The Veronicas, Mallrat, Methyl Ethel, Confidence Man, Lastlings and many more.
