Big Day Out hits Melbourne today and its set to be a belter. Temperatures are expected to to hit 40 degrees so don’t forget your sunscreen and water!

MELBOURNE HOT WEATHER ALERT AND TIPS

Remember to bring ID, your ticket, sun block, sunglasses a long sleeved top and a hat!

A combination of large crowds, a long day and hot weather will tire you out. Make sure you pace yourself, apply plenty of sunblock, drink plenty of water, bring enough cash, eat some food that will give you some energy and minimize sun exposure.

If you have any chronic conditions or illness (ie epilepsy, diabetes, asthma) be sure to carry any medication you may need and information regarding your condition and emergency contact number on your person at all times.

WATER

Avoid dehydration – don’t forget to drink plenty of water!

You can bring into the show an unopened or empty bottle of water no larger that 600mls (no glass!) and reasonable amounts of food without problems.

FREE WATER TAPS

Free water taps are located next to all toilet blocks.



MISTING TENTS


Misting tents are located near Lilyworld, Green Stage, Hot Produce.

BE SUNSMART!

Wearing sun protective clothing, a long sleeved top, long pants, sunscreen, sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat are your best bet!

SUNSCREEN

I f you run out you can purchase Sunscreen for the Cancer Council of Victoria stall opposite the Merchandise stall in the Market area. Cancer Council volunteers will also be roaming with sunscreen at entry points and the event.

SHADE AREAS

There’s plenty of shaded areas at the event such as all the bars, near all stages, Boiler Room, Hot Produce, Silent Disco, trees near the Green and Essential Stages, The Vanessa Bus, Motorola Tower of Power and near the Food area.

GETTING TO AND FROM BIG DAY OUT MELBOURNE

The best way to get to Big Day Out is by public transport! Extra trains and trams have been

scheduled to make sure you and your mates can travel to and from Flemington Racecourse

easily and safely. Don’t forget you’ll need a valid Metcard or myki to travel to the event.

Trains will run to a Sunday timetable. So make sure you plan your journey ahead of time and

work out which train you’ll be catching home.

TAXI/Parent drop OFF

There are two designated drop off areas with access via the Main Entrance. One located ON

CORNER OF UNION ROAD AND EPSOM ROAD FOR NORTHERN SUBURBS and the

CITYSIDE POINT located AT MEMBERS DRIVE on Epsom Road (west side). Please note

that no U turns will be allowed along Epsom Road and both Duncan and Wisewould Streets

will be closed to traffic during the event.

TAXI/PARENT pick up

Please note that post event, pick up will not be possible on Epsom Road as this will be

closed to traffic. The pick up areas will be CORNER OF EPSOM AND LANGS Road (NEAR

SHOWGROUNDS and on the city side of Racecourse Road NEAR THE ROUNDABOUT.

Parking

There is VERY LIMITED car parking available in the vicinity of Big Day Out and it is

advisable to use public transport where possible. All of the local streets will be designated

as “Permit Zone” only on the day of the event and parking restrictions will be heavily

enforced so don’t risk getting a fine.

If you must drive, provisions have been made at the Showgrounds for public parking but

spaces are limited and the cost will be $15 per car. Entry to the Showgrounds car park is via

Langs Road. Entry to the Big Day Out is via the Showgrounds tunnel.

Wheelchair access

All Epsom Rd and Railway Gates are accessible.

Big Day Out goers arriving by:

Train – make your way down Hill Road and enter via Railway Gate

Tram – enter via Epsom Road gate

Accessible car parking available within Melbourne Showgrounds RASV car park, once

parked travel through Showgrounds tunnel and into site via Railway Entrance.
