Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has revealed that the punk rock trio intend to take a break following their headline set at Soundwave 2014. Armstrong told an interviewer that the band wish to ‘charge their batteries’ and pursue other interests before returning to Green Day.
Last week, Armstrong told BBC Radio 2‘s Jo Whitley, “We’re going to Australia, doing a tour there and then we’re going to take a break. We haven’t really been doing much. So it’s just nice to kind of do some other things…when we get ready to do Green Day again, our batteries will be charged.”
2014 will mark the 20 year anniversary of the band’s seminal album Dookie! and while the band have not scheduled any sideshows, it has been confirmed they will celebrate the milestone with a two-and-a-half hour Soundwave set that may include a performance of Dookie! in its entirety.
The band’s last studio release was a trio of albums respectively named ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!, unveiled in 2012 to critical acclaim and followed by a documentary film. Armstrong recently released Foreverly, a collection of Everly Brothers covers, in collaboration with Norah Jones.
