Incendiary British singer-songwriter and political activist Billy Bragg is set to speak and perform two songs at the Sydney March In March event, a protest rally organised on a parliamentary sitting day for people who have “no confidence” in the current Tony Abbott-lead Coalition government.
The Sydney March In March will take place this Sunday, 16th March at Belmore Park in Haymarket and according to theMusic.com.au, Bragg has agreed to appear alongside comedian and event emcee Mathew Wakefield and representatives from the Refugee Action Coalition and other groups.
Bragg isn’t the first international artist to express opposition to Australia’s current PM. Before Abbott was even elected last September, politically outspoken Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke took to Twitter to link fans to an essay penned by journalist George Monbiot, titled Abbottalypse Now.
Amanda Palmer and Katy Perry also weighed in on the highly divisive PM and intergalactic thrash metal veterans GWAR even saw fit to behead Abbott while in the country for the Soundwave 2014 tour. The stunt elicited “appalled” reactions from Australians for Constitutional Monarchy.
