We’ve had a brief break from Smashing Pumpkins‘ Billy Corgan and D’Arcy Wretzky exchanging unpleasantries but we’re straight back into it.
Corgan previously told an interviewer that he’s done talking about Wretzky not being included in the reunion tour but he’s opened the flood gates once again in an interview with Beats 1.
When asked about it he initially told host Lars Ulrich that he didn’t want to, “feed back into the [tabloid] machine,” but then proceeded to do exactly that.
He said that they had “very pleasant” conversations over the phone at the beginning but it turned sour.
“When it became obvious that it wasn’t the way she wanted it to be, it turned into this other thing that was reminiscent of the past,” he said.
Corgan has no problem moving forward with the reunion with out her saying the whole band is “very comfortable”.
“If you’re really not passionate about what you do and you’re not passionate about providing that passion to fans by extension and saying, ‘Look we really love what we do and we want to share this with you.’ If that relationship is not at the heart of what you do, then what are you doing,” he said.
“The thing that keeps you on the rudder is the music and the fact that somehow when the three of us come together, this magical thing happens that’s bigger than me, and I have no problem admitting to that.”
He went on to say that it would be a “shitty reality show” if the music wasn’t the band’s “guiding principle”.
“And we don’t want the shitty reality show, we really don’t. We’d rather just stay on the music, and if we can do that, great.”
Wretzky last said that Corgan “can’t sing” and also suggested that he hated his fans.
Despite all the drama, the Smashing Pumpkins are pushing forward with their partial reunion tour, promising to release new music over two EPs.
