Big Day out 2014 headliners Blur, have just revealed they will no longer be playing the festival blaming organisers for “shifting goalposts and challenging conditions”. The UK band announced the shock news via their Facebook page overnight accusing organisers of letting the band and fans down.

“Devastated to report that Blur won’t be performing at BDO in 2014. It’s a shock that it has come to this. Only 8 weeks to go, the band feels that with the constantly shifting goalposts and challenging conditions of the organisers, they can’t let it drag on any longer and want to make this announcement, to be clear to Blur fans that they won’t be there. We’ve done our very best to work with the organisers and considered every option to make it happen, but they’ve let us down and let everyone else down too”.

The news comes just days after Big Day Out announced their second lineup which included Primus, Vista Chino, CSS and a number of local bands.

There is no official word from the Big Day Out crew yet as to what went down, more updates as they come in…

9 POTENTIAL REPLACEMENTS FOR BLUR’S BIG DAY OUT SLOT

Update: 12:00pm Big Day Out CEO Adam Zammit has tweeted revealing a replacement band will be announced soon.

Update: 2:40pm Zammit says Big Day out will be issuing a statement “very shortly” and that the festival will “do the honourable thing” in relation to refunds. Stay tuned to Music Feeds for more information.

Update: 3:18pm Big Day Out will not be cancelled “despite Blur’s action”. Interesting choice of language. Expect a full statement very soon.
