As the countdown continues to this year’s Byron Bay Bluesfest, headlined by one Bob Dylan of course, it has emerged that the 69-year-old will play his first ever show in Vietnam in early April as part of his Asian tour.
The date has gone up at Dylan’s website, announcing that he will perform at Ho Chi Minh City’s RMIT University Stadium on April 10. However, the bard is not making it easy for his Vietnamese fans, with the cheapest tickets costing 900,000 dong ($43.57), which is just over Vietnam’s monthly minimum wage.
The news of the Vietnam show follows the announcement that Dylan has also been given permission to play in China, also in April. He will play shows in Beijing (April 6) and Shanghai (April 8), with the one proviso from Chinese authorities that he must, rather menacingly, ‘stick to the program’, according to the AP.
Promoters for the Vietnam show are Saigon Sound System. Their manager, one Rod Quinton, is quoted by Contact Music as saying, “We are bringing him here because Bob Dylan is a very important legend of music and we think it’s important that Vietnamese people, particularly the younger generation, are exposed to his legacy and what he’s done for music.”
