Bobby Womack has just been announced as one of the acts on the impressive line-up for Vivid LIVE 2013 and, despite releasing albums since the 1960s, this year will mark Womack’s first headlining Australian tour, bringing along a full 13-piece band.
The seasoned soul and R&B singer burst back into the musical consciousness behind last year’s The Bravest Man in the Universe, the first studio album from Womack in over a decade, and his first release comprised of original material since 1994’s Resurrection.
Sadly, the legendary singer-songwriter, who recently turned 69, revealed earlier this year that he has been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Womack told BBC’s Gilles Peterson the degenerative disease isn’t ‘bad’ yet but unfortunately will get worse.
Womack’s upcoming shows at Vivid Sydney and at the Hamer Hall in Melbourne are not to be missed. Tickets for the Melbourne show are on sale from 9am Wednesday, 27th March from the Arts Centre Melbourne. For info on the Vivid LIVE performance head over to Vivid Sydney’s official site.
