Bon Iver are no stranger to intimate songmaking, but they might have outdone themselves with a sweet rendition of Flume with The Staves before a gig in Hong Kong.
Bon Iver toured Asia earlier in March, and Justin Vernon warmed-up with his folk tourmates playing the For Emma, Forever Ago standout track in a stairwell before their last gig together gig on 8 March.
The echo chamber of the stairwell did the sweet harmonies a beautiful justice while the mates ad libbed and made animal noises through the middle. Vernon ended the song with a beautifully eccentric acoustic metal outro.
The Staves, who posted the video to Youtube, said of the vid, “Such sweet memories. Can’t remember why we never did do that death metal ending live…”
Bon Iver recently announced their new show Cercle, which will take place at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Vivid Sydney festival from 27 to 30 May.
