Bonnaroo has announced its 2015 lineup headed up by Mumford and Sons, Kendrick Lamar, deadmau5 and, uh, Billy Joel.
Also featured on the lineup is Florence + the Machine, who is making her long-awaited live return this year, My Morning Jacket, Alabama Shakes, Childish Gambino and plenty of other names that will make you want to spend June in Tennessee. Courtney Barnett, Flume, DMA’s and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are among those representing for Australia.
Ed Helms, best known for roles in The Hangover and the American version of The Office, will host a special edition of Bonnaroo’s infamous Superjam. The Bluegrass Situation Superjam is more than likely to feature Mumford and Sons after Helms appeared in their video for Hopeless Wanderer.
The lineup marks the first live show for Mumford and Sons since they announced they would be going on an indefinite hiatus in September 2014. In October last year, it was reported that they were back in the studio with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford.
The band were forced to cancel their 2013 headline set at Bonnaroo when bassist Ted Dwane had to undergo emergency brain surgery.
Joel’s headline slot echoes AC/DC’s similar position at the top of the Coachella 2015 lineup, signalling a shift in programming for large US festival towards booking crowd-pleasing nostalgia acts as headliners.
The lineup was drip-fed over the course of several hours, with fans having to dial a phone number (1-844-ROO-2015) to reveal the artists playing this year. That information was then shared on social media using #bonnaroo.
Bonnaroo 2015 runs from 11th to 14th June in Manchester, Tennessee. Tickets go on sale Saturday, 17th January, if you feel so inclined.
