Brace Yourselves: A Documentary About That F*cked ‘Fyre Festival’ Is Coming

The story behind the biggest music festival balls-up in human memory, Fyre Festival, is set to be laid bare in a multi-part documentary series from American streaming platform Hulu.

The docuseries will chronicle the dumpster fire of a music event with hours of unseen footage, leaked documents, recordings, and more, examining just how organisers Billy McFarland and Ja Rule managed to cook it so spectacularly.

If you need a quick refresher, McFarland and Ja teamed up to set up Fyre Fest across two weekends last April and May. It was promoted on social media by the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and other supermodels and celebs as an ultra-luxurious music festival in the Bahamas, with ticket packages ranging from US$1,200 to over a batshit insane US$100,000.

However, it ended up being nothing short of a catastrophe, with punters rocking up expecting to see live performances from the likes of Blink-182, Migos and more instead learning that all the music had been cancelled, while their ‘luxury accommodations’ and ‘gourmet food’ were in actuality leaky tents and cheese sandwiches.

As Billboard reports, the Hulu series will “follow the events surrounding the chaotic fall of the festival, which included unfinished campsites, limited access to basic necessities, airline issues, and headlining acts pulling out due to unstable conditions”.

It will also include in-depth interviews with “local Bahamians, vendors, investors”, and the stranded festivalgoers who were ripped off thousands of dollars for the so-called ‘ultra-luxury’ experience.

The currently untitled series is set to air in 2019.

Meanwhile, the news of its production comes after 26-year-old promoter McFarland pled guilty to wire fraud charges over his role in the failed fest, which could see him face up to 10 years behind bars.

He admitted to lying to investors and sending false documents.
