Britney Spears Has Issued A Cease And Desist Against Her Sister

Britney Spears and her legal team have hit Spears’ sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, with a cease and desist order as the younger sibling prepares for the release of her memoir, Things I Should Have Said.

Jamie Lynn is already on the promo trail for her memoir, which purports to give her side of the story with regards to her relationship with Britney and the issues surrounding her conservatorship.

The cease and desist order, filed through Britney’s lawyer Mathew S. Rosengart, states that Jamie Lynn refrain ‘from referencing Britney derogatorily during [her] promotional campaign’.

Further in the letter, reported by the BBC, Rosengart has written that, “Although Britney has not read and does not intend to read your book, she and millions of her fans were shocked to see how you have exploited her for monetary gain”.

Jamie Lynn appeared on Good Morning America in her first public interview since Britney’s conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, where she described her sister’s behaviour as ‘out of control’.

Shortly after, Britney took to social media to call out the interview, claiming that her sister wasn’t around her much in those early years of the conservatorship.

“I know it may sound like a silly thing to most people but I wrote a lot of my songs and my sister was the baby.” Britney wrote.

“She never had to work for anything. Everything was always given to her !!!!”

Further, she added, “Hope your book does well, Jamie Lynn !!!! I won’t be doing Instagram for a while. The media, this business has always been extremely hateful to me. I’ve given enough … MORE than enough.”

“You of all people know the abuse and wrongdoing Britney had to endure during the conservatorship, after initially growing up with a ‘ruinous,’ alcoholic father. In fact, your own book reportedly states that your father ‘spent most of my life in that cycle of ruinous behaviour.” Rosengart’s letter to Jamie Lynn continues.

“His bouts of drinking caused me periods of torment and sorrow.’ As I have previously stated, having endured a 13-year conservatorship that stripped her of civil rights and fundamental liberties, Britney will no longer be bullied by her father or anyone else.”

“You recently reportedly stated that the book was ‘not about her.’ She takes you at your word and we, therefore, demand that you cease and desist from referencing Britney derogatorily during your promotional campaign,” the letter warns. “If you fail to do so or defame her, Britney will be forced to consider and take all appropriate legal action.”

Britney’s legal team will be returning to court to fight her father Jamie Spears’ request to have Britney continue paying his legal fees.
