K-pop superstar Jin, the oldest boy member of BTS, finished his compulsory Military Service in South Korea on Wednesday. Their reunion was live streamed and the 31-year-old was greeted with flowers by most of his group members outside an army base in Yeoncheon. Jin served his military services in the northern province of Yeoncheon for a total of eighteen months.
Jin made his first public appearance since finishing his mandatory service in the South Korean military, taking the stage at the 2024 BTS Festa on Thursday, June 13. During the event, he personally greeted ARMY by hugging 1,000 fans.
The celebration, held in Seoul at Jamsil Arena, marked BTS’s 11-year anniversary and featured the Jin star hosting his own in-person event.
Jin Shared A Statement During Anniversary Livestream
Jin said the following while talking about the reunion ceremony in a livestream on the Weverse fandom platform which got over 3 million views “I cried during the ceremony, but it was so fun for the last year and six months. It’s such a relief I met so many good people, sending regards to his colleagues at the military base.”
In South Korea, it is mandatory for all able-bodied men between the age of 18-28 to serve for 18-21 months in the military service of the country. However a large number of supporters of the boy band insisted that the BTS members and other KPop boy bands were equally valuable cultural ambassadors of South Korea, however the lawmakers did not agree with them but made an exception for the KPop stars to be able to join the military services upto the age of 30.
After Jin, the other members of the team have also been posted for military duties and all of them would be discharged by June 2025 and then only the band will rejoin each other again.
