The second lineup announcement for Byron Bay Bluesfest 2014 has gone public, adding a whole new round of big names to what was already a stacked lineup featuring some of the best in blues, roots, funk, soul, and jazz music. The second announcement sees the addition of The Doobie Brothers, Aaron Neville, Gregg Allman, and Boz Scaggs to the Bluesfest 2014 roster!
UPDATE: Byron Bay Bluesfest 2014 third lineup announcement has arrived – full details here!
Last week, Bluesfest organisers announced via Twitter that tonight would see the announcement of the second lineup, tweeting “Plans for the weekend? We’re busy getting the 2nd @BluesfestByron artist announcement ready for Tues 24 Sept. Can’t hardly wait!” amid high speculation that saw some legendary names, including The Replacements, getting hurled around. With the second round lineup now confirmed, 2014 truly looks to be the biggest year in Bluesfest’s history.
The Doobie Brothers have been performing since the 1970s, and are now considered living legends some of the most esteemed names in American rock & roll. Said Festival Director Peter Noble: “Here come the Legends. We are so proud to be bringing you the Doobie Brothers and just like Steve Miller Band at Bluesfest in 2013, they have hit after hit after hit.”
Noble continued, “Talking about Steve Miller, we are announcing Boz Scaggs, who is an original member of the Steve Miller Band and he will give us the real Lowdown (one of his many great hits), a really classy white soul man, if EVER there was one.” Considered “one of the masters of American music,” Boz Scaggs is sure to be a feast for music fans young and old.
No rock & roll education is complete without a thorough exploration of the work of one Gregg Allman. The former leader of what is arguably Southern Rock’s greatest band, The Allman Brothers, Gregg has one of the most remarkable and respected discographies in music to draw on for what is sure to be an electrifying set.
Widely regarded as one of the most unique, emotional and soulful voices in music, Aaron Neville will be making his Australian solo debut, having toured previously in The Neville Brothers and with The Blind Boys of Alabama. Fans are sure to hear all the hits when he takes to the stage solo.
These incredible acts are just a slice of what Bluesfest 2014 has to offer. The first lineup round brought with it the announcement of John Mayer, John Butler Trio, Dave Matthews Band, and Iron & Wine taking to the Bluesfest stages. With this massive second announcement, it looks like Peter Noble is delivering on his promise to “[celebrate] this one as never before.”
Tickets for the multi-award winning five-day festival, held over the Easter Long Weekend from 17th–21st April at the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, north of Byron Bay, are priced at $515 for the full five days, $385 for three days, and $149 for one day, with plenty of camping and VIP options available.
