Melbourne trio Camp Cope are back with the new single, ‘Blue’, the band’s first single in more than three and a half years.
Camp Cope’s second album, How to Socialise & Make Friends, came out in March 2018, led by the singles, ‘The Opener’, ‘How to Socialise & Make Friends’ and ‘Sagan-Indiana’.
How to Socialise & Make Friends was nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album, as well as the J Award for Australian Album of the Year and the AIR Award for Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album. The band won Breakthrough Artist at the 2018 Australian Women in Music Awards and the Music Victoria Award for Best Band.
Camp Cope’s debut, self-titled album came out in April 2016 and garnered praise around the world. In an 8.0 review, Pitchfork praised singer and songwriter Georgia Maq’s emotional intelligence, saying it was “off the charts.”
‘Blue’ is a slight curve ball from Maq, bass player Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich and drummer Sarah Thompson. It’s more refined than anything on the trio’s previous two records and comes with a country tinge, helped along by harmony vocals.
Details of Camp Cope’s third album remain scant, but they’ve confirmed it’ll be on its way in 2022. According to a press release, the band went into the studio during the pandemic and were liberated by the lack of deadlines or looming overseas tours.
‘Blue’ is out now through Poison City Records. Listen below.
