UPDATE 14/11/16: A petition has been launched to erect a statue of Michael Hutchence in Sydney.
ORIGINAL STORY: November 2017 will mark the 20th anniversary of the death of late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, and a campaign calling for a statue of him to be erected in his home city of Sydney (near the ICC Sydney Theatre) has gained momentum.
A social media campaign has been launched across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and the push has found support from Hutchence’s family members, including his half-sister Tina.
“The campaign to have a bronze statue commissioned and placed in the City of Sydney was born from a visit home to Sydney in June 2016 by Rosanda Herbert and a long standing desire for such a monument by Vincent Lamaro,” reads the blurb on the campaign website.
“The #AStatueForMichaelHutchence Twitter campaign continues to gather momentum. It is evident that Michael’s influence continues to inspire a whole new generation. A significant number of high-profile people, from many different disciplines, have given the project their endorsement.
“We believe that it’s time for Michael to come home and stand proudly amongst us once again in Sydney. It’s time to honour a legend with a Statue for Michael Hutchence.”
A Twitter user claiming to be Hutchence’s grand nephew wrote a statement last month about the cause, which was then tweeted by her grandmother and Hutchence’s half-sister, Tina:

A collection of 15 unheard tracks that Hutchence recorded before he died is set to be released next year, with the first snippet of a track called Kik It emerging earlier this year.
‘INXS The Musical’ is also set to premiere in Australia in 2017, while a new Michael Hutchence documentary is also set to be released.
