Cardi B likes dollars and diamonds and stunting and shining, and today, she’s gone and added a massive diamond to her collection. The Recording Industry Association of America have confirmed that her hit single ‘Bodak Yellow’ is now certified diamond.
This means that the record has sold over 10 million copies, making the New York rapper the first female rapper in history to do so.
In this age of lack of physical CD sales, the RIAA counts one song unit as equal to a single digital song sale, or 150 audio and/or video streams.
In a clip posted to Twitter, she explained that her label, Atlantic Records, surprised her with the plaque at a restaurant.
“I just want to say thank you guys so much, because without you it wouldn’t have happened. It really made my day. And it really uplifted me,” she said.
‘Bodak Yellow’ was the first track of Cardi B’s to make the top 10 and for a period, it was the longest running Billboard No. 1 song by a female rapper – which was only recently beaten out by Lizzo’s ‘Truth Hurts’.
In other Cardi news, her song ‘WAP’ with Megan Thee Stallion today went 5x platinum, hitting five million sales. She’s also gearing up to perform at the Grammys and is readying her new record too.
