Hearts broke across the nation following Childish Gambino‘s recent announcement that he would be cancelling his Australian tour and Spilt Milk headlining slot due to a foot injury he suffered at a concert in Dallas last month.
But one man isn’t letting the bad news break him.
Iron-willed Queenslander and Gambino diehard Sheldon Mcloughlin bought plane tickets so that he could catch the rapper’s now-axed show at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, and has resolved that he will not let something as trivial as Gambino’s entire Aussie tour cancellation prevent him from singing along to ‘Redbone’ outside the iconic Aussie landmark.
Thus, Mcloughlin and his mates have created a Facebook event titled ‘Sit outside Opera House & play Childish Gambino on my UE boom’, earmarked for Thursday, 15th November (AKA the night Donald Glover was supposed to be performing there).
“Everyone faces trials and tribulations,” Mcloughlin writes by way of the event description.
“For Gambino, it was the respectable yet sad decision to cancel his Australian tour. For me, it was the realisation that I’d bought plane tickets from Queensland to Sydney only days earlier and now have nothing to do the evening of November 15. It is not the trials that shape a man, but yet, how he chooses to overcome them.”
He continues: “Join us, for a night of Childish Gambino, without Childish Gambino, but instead with a UE boom and a Spotify playlist.”
So far, over 1.3K devo Childish Gambino fans have taken him up on the offer, RSVP-ing to the official Facebook event. And you can join them, right here.
Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that Gambino’s New Zealand ‘PHAROS’ Festival will still go ahead, despite his Australian tour cancellation.
At the same time, Glover’s Aussie tour promoter Live Nation has announced that it is “working with the artist to try and reschedule the dates for a new time period”.
While Spilt Milk promoters said: “An artist the calibre of Childish Gambino can never truly be replaced so close to event day, but we will be announcing an exciting line up addition shortly.”
