Chris Brown was arrested in Paris on Monday with two other people on suspicion of rape, but has now reportedly been released from custody.
The 29-year-old American singer and rapper’s arrest was first reported by Closer magazine, which said Brown, his bodyguard and a friend were detained after a 24-year-old woman alleged she was raped in Brown’s suite at the Mandarin Oriental hotel on the night of 15th January.
A French police source has since confirmed the arrest to Reuters, while Brown has denied the allegation in an Instagram post, featuring the words “THIS BITCH LYIN'”.
“I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR…… THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF CAP [sic],” Brown wrote in the caption of the post.
“NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!! FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISPRESPECTFUL [sic] AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!”
Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, but denied an allegation that he pointed a gun at a woman in 2016.
He was reportedly arrested for alleged felony battery at a concert in 2018, but was later released.
Brown’s planned 2015 Australian tour was cancelled following a campaign to deny him entry to the country over his past domestic violence convictions, sparking a multi-million dollar lawsuit.
