The Living End’s Chris Cheney labelled Sydney “the city of gay” at the band’s show at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne last night.
The cheeky pot shot (typical of the Melbourne vs Sydney rivalry) was made as the band announced they were filming the show – and “the next few nights” of their Retrospective Tour in their hometown. Signs saying “This Show Is Being Filmed” were also posted with the set times at the front of the venue.
“I should have said mentioned this a lot earlier… but we’re filming tonight and the next few nights”, Cheney said.
“We were discussing where we should film… Adelaide, the city of churches…. Sydney, the city of gay, or Melbourne, the city of rock!” he proclaimed, much to the delight of the crowd.
One imagines the footage will be used for some sort of DVD or documentary to be released in the not too distant future – but this hasn’t been confirmed by the band yet. The show recorded last night was the performance of their album White Noise – click here for our review.
The Living End are currently doing a record-breaking 11-show run at the Corner Hotel to finish off their Retrospective Tour – where they have been playing all their albums in full from start to finish (one album per night).
