Christina Aguilera has posted a series of tweets in support of her friend Britney Spears who last week, gave her first public testimony asking to end her conservatorship.
Earlier in the week, Spears addressed a courtroom in Los Angeles. She called her conservatorship “abusive” and wished for it to be terminated without evaluation.
Aguilera posted a thread on Monday, saying:
“These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through. It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”
“To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those “close” to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable,” she continued.
“The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly.”
During the address, Spears told of a few shocking revelations, including claims that her conservators will not permit her to see a doctor to remove an IUD, which is preventing her from having another child. All of these conditions have been approved by her father and co-conservator, Jamie Spears.
“I want to be able to get married and have a baby. I was told with the conservatorship I was not able to get married and have a baby,” Spears said.
Aguilera continued:
“Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness.”
“To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”
