With their national tour set to start this weekend, City Calm Down have just released a hot new single titled Son.
Opening with a brooding yet uplifting mix of Samuel Mullaly’s organs and Jack Bourke’s signature baritone vocals, Son is a slow building pop epic. Following in the open spaced vein of the band’s other singles, and building to a tumultuous climax, the song hints at great things to come for the band.
As the latest sampling from the Melbourne quartet’s forthcoming debut album In A Restless House, Son follows on from previous releases Rabbit Run and Wandering, and is now the third piece from the record to make it to our ears.
Crafted over the better part of three years, In A Restless House is the band’s meticulous follow up to their highly successful EP Movements. Catapulted to fame by the success of the EP’s lead singles Pleasure of Consequence and Sense of Self, the band were soon touring the nation with the likes of CHRVCHES among others.
Rather than rush their debut album though, they chose to take the longer road, which if these three lead singles are anything to go by, was certainly the right choice.
