It’s the eve of their first interstate show and Melbourne’s COLA WARS have unveiled a sample of their white-hot new demos on their new MYSPACE site http://www.myspace.com/officialcolawars.
With a few bona-fide alternative radio hits and a couple of gold records in the trophy room via his work in BODYJAR, Cola Wars’ guitarist Cam reckons ” You can’t get too forensic when you’re writing for an album. For me, passion … music that comes from the gut still plays a big part and guides the process. I guess it’s always been that way for me.”
You can still hear the over-arching influences on Cam’s craft. … whether it’s the infectious, driving guitar-hooks inspired by seminal US hardcore band DESCENDENTS or the sonic and emotional depth of a squalling HUSKER DU or the primordial-emo-punk musical stylings of BIG DRILL CAR. Sure, of course you can hear the legacy of BODYJAR, but arguably COLA WARS offers more. Maybe it’s a hearty embrace of the old ‘new wave’ or the tinge of power-metal or maybe it’s the souped-up vocal firepower ?
Cam reveals the simple truth, ” COLA WARS is a totally different beast to BODYJAR. The Jar guys basically grew up together … musically & mentally. Whereas COLA WARS is the collision of fully formed musical identities if you like. It’s either gunna work out spectacularly or just not at all. And right now it feels like it’s working pretty freakin’ well.”
