Coldplay Wrote Australia A Christmas Song About Booze & Kangaroos

Coldplay wrapped up their massive Australian stadium tour in Sydney last night, and during the show frontman Chris Martin took things down a notch to play a stripped-back acoustic song about Christmas in Australia.

The band are well-known lovers of our sunburnt country (and unabashed fans of the country’s greatest ever leg spinner, Shane Warne), and Martin introduced the new song to the crowd by calling it Christmas With The Kangaroos.

He then proceeded to sing a song about how Aussies celebrate Christmas, including some on-point lyrics like, “Christmas here is much more fun, we got surf and we got sun. Christmas here sweet as a peach, opening presents on the beach.”

Predictably, the song resonated hugely well with the huge audience, and by the end of it almost everyone in the crowd was singing along.

Coldplay have shared video of the song (below) on Facebook, saying, “Thanks to everyone who came to our NZ/Australia shows – one of the most fun & memorable tour legs ever.”

Although the tour has been a resounding success in general, it hasn’t gone ahead without the odd cock-up, like when Martin invited the wrong woman on stage in Melbourne for a mid-song proposal.
