Coldplay’s New Album Features Guest Vocals By US President Barack Obama

Coldplay‘s forthcomer is turning out to be like a sky full of stars. Among the high-profile cameos announced for the band’s seventh LP, there’s Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter, Noel Gallagher, Gwyneth Paltrow and the President of the United States.

That’s right. US President Barack Obama‘s angelic vocal tones shall feature as a centrepiece on the British superstars’ new slice of indie-rock, dubbed A Head Full Of Dreams.

According to The Sun, Coldplay received special permission from the White House to sample the POTUS’s rendition of Amazing Grace, the iconic gospel anthem which he performed live at the funeral of Charleston shooting victim Clementa C. Pinckney earlier this year.

“We have a tiny clip of the President singing Amazing Grace at that church,” frontman Chris Martin told the paper.

“[It’s on the album] because of the historical significance of what he did, and also the song being about, ‘I’m lost but now I’m found’.”

The Sun also quotes an anonymous White House source, explaining: “Barack Obama wouldn’t let just anyone feature his vocals on the record, especially considering what a deeply emotional moment it was for him.

“But he clearly loves Coldplay and is happy to be a part of their music history. The band were obviously thrilled.

“They needed to get permission from Obama himself and the Charleston church it was recorded in.”

Coldplay’s song Paradise featured on the Leader of the Free World’s first official summer Spotify playlist earlier this year, thus affirming his fanboy status.

It will be interesting to see how the Prez’s brit-pop debut measures up against Pope Francis’s new prog-rock project in the charts.

Coldplay’s presidential new album, A Head Full Of Dreams, is due out on December 4th.

Meanwhile, check out US President Barack Obama – who as it happens is not the lead singer of Korn – performing Amazing Grace, below.
