Courtney Barnett has announced a full Australian tour for early 2024. The Melbourne singer-songwriter will play across the country throughout January and February, starting on Saturday, 20th January at the City Recital Hall in Sydney.
This will be followed by Melbourne, Perth, and finally Hobart (the date and venue have yet to be confirmed). The tour has been earmarked as the ‘End Of The Day’ tour, which will see Barnett playing two sets: the first being entirely instrumental, made up of tracks from the score of the documentary Anonymous Club, and the second being favourites from her back catalogue.
Courtney Barnett: ‘Start Somewhere’, ‘Life Balance’, ‘First Slow’
The tour announcement comes after Barnett was revealed on the lineups for the Sydney Festival and Perth Festival, and was also locked into the Melbourne Recital Hall’s 2024 contemporary program.
The end of 2023 will also bring up a bittersweet milestone for Barnett: the closure of her longtime record label Milk! Records. The news was announced in July this year, with Barnett telling Double J that she didn’t really know why she was shuttering the label – just that she knew it was time.
“I don’t completely know the answer to that question yet,” she told the station. “The why, the how, or any of those things. But I just know now just seemed like it was the right time.”
Milk! Records was launched by Barnett in 2012 as a way to release her first EP, I’ve Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris. The label went on to release music from Liz Stringer, Jen Cloher, Jade Imagine, Tiny Ruins, Loose Tooth, Hachiku, Evelyn Ida Morris, and many more.
