Courtney Barnett Will Come Home To Hit The MTV Unplugged Melbourne Stage This October

MTV Unplugged have just shared that the fifth guest to feature in the Melbourne-based series will be none other than Courtney Barnett.

Following on from other MTV Unplugged performances, Barnett will join Gang Of Youths, DMA’s, Amy Shark and The Rubens in the history books with this one.

The ARIA award-winning and Grammy-nominated Aussie artist will take to the Howler stage in front of a live audience on Tuesday, October 22 to perform stripped-back versions of some of her tracks.

Barnett says she grew up with some of the classic MTV Unplugged’s playing on her home tele as a kid.

“In my house growing up we had Nirvana Unplugged and Clapton Unplugged on repeat and I discovered a whole new world of music through the cover songs”.

Absolutely no stranger to the format of the classic show, she’ll be stripping back some of her tracks from her debut record, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, her follow up, Tell Me How You Really Feel, as well as some of her older works too.

“It’s been fun to re-arrange my songs and sometimes revisit where they started as demos. Gonna try a few new things,” she said.

There’s a lil rumour going around that she’ll have a special guest joining her on stage, with MTV saying “We can’t say who but trust me you won’t wanna miss it.” Our bet’s on Paul Kelly.

Barnett’s become one of Australia’s most exciting and honest live music exports, with her music offering up a taste of classic Australiana with her light touch to international audiences.

If you’re keen to head along and be part of the audience for this one, head to the MTV website for more info.
