Crowded House have just flicked us a second taste of their forthcoming eighth studio album Gravity Stairs. Dubbed ‘Teenage Summer’, the iconic act’s fresh single started out as live track, previously dubbed ‘Life’s Imitation’.
“My grandson Manaia told me ‘Teenage Summer’ was one of his favourite songs,” band leader Neil Finn explained about the track’s sudden name change. “He’d identified the peak moment in the song, and a light went on. It’s that simple: the children must be heard.”
CROWDED HOUSE – ‘TEENAGE SUMMER’
Produced by the band themselves alongside Steven Schram (whose CV also boasts the likes of Paul Kelly and San Cisco), Gravity Stairs promises fans the fresh Crowded House lineup of Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, and Finn’s sons Elroy and Liam, delivering the same quality songwriting that has seen them captivate audiences for going on four decades.
The LP’s title was inspired by a heavy stone staircase located at one of Finn’s favourite vacation spots, which he likens to his mindset as a creator.
“It’s a metaphor for getting a little older and becoming aware of your own mortality, your own physicality,” Finn explains in a press statement. “Things are getting a little harder, and there’s more determination needed to get to the top, but there’s still the same compulsion to climb them.”
Gravity Stairs is due to reach our ears on Friday, 31st May.
Crowded House also just announced a huge North American tour to coincide with the new single, which we can only hope means Aussie dates aren’t far behind. Watch this space…
