Blur frontman and Grammy Award-winner Damon Albarn will perform at the iconic Sydney Opera House this December, in support of his debut solo album Everyday Robots, which was released in late April. According to a press release, a Melbourne concert will also be announced soon.
Ben Marshall, Head of Contemporary Music at Sydney Opera House said, “Damon Albarn is one of the great figures in modern music and we’re incredibly proud to present his debut solo performance in Australia.
“His restless inventiveness, inquisitiveness and taste across all his projects have been an inspiration to me and this will be an amazing summer evening in the Opera House Concert Hall.”
Joining Albarn onstage will be his new live band, The Heavy Seas, which includes guitarist Seye Adelekan, drummer Pauli The PSM, guitarist Jeff Wootton, keyboardist Mike Smith, as well as a string quartet and a six-piece choir.
Aside from his work with britpop icons Blur, Albarn has also lifted his virtual band Gorillaz to global success, written two full-length opera compositions (Dr Dee and Monkey: Journey To The West), and lent his hands to a string of collaborative albums.
